About Me
I am a psychologist with a passion for medical communication, professional behavior and simulated patients. In my work, as a lecturer and researcher, I focus on the development of professional behavior of Health-students. With our group of 7 colleagues we are responsible for the educational program of professional behavior at the tree Health-studies: Technical Medicine, Biomedical Technology and Health Sciences. Communication training with simulates patients, reflection and intervision play an important role in our program. As well as individual student counseling.
I have a special interest in simulates patients (SPs) and the important role the play in student learning. As a SP-educator I am responsible for 40 SP at our TechMed Centre. In my work, I am responsible for the selection and training of these SPs, as well as for the quality of our SP program.
My research focuses on the interaction between students and SPs. More specifically, on how the SPs contribute to meaningful learning of students during a SP-student encounter. My research aims to develop a theory describing the contribution of the SP to meaningful learning of the student. From this we can develop interventions to improve the learning outcomes of the student during the interaction with an SP. My PhD is part of SHE, Maastricht University and the Lab for Professional Learning in High Tech Healthcare, University of Twente.
