Anna Priante is Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the Department of Business Administration, NIKOS (research group for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation Management) at the University of Twente. Her research interests are at the intersection of sociology (e.g., networks, identity, social movements, STS), media studies (e.g., social media and online communication), and computational social sciences (e.g., digital sociology). In her research, Anna adopts a mixed-method approach combining statistical and network analysis with computational methods and (supervised and unsupervised) machine learning.
Anna is in the process of finalizing her PhD dissertation on the effectiveness of Twitter cancer awareness campaigns on prevention and early detection behavior. In particular, she investigates how identities and network structures explain the effectiveness of online advocacy campaigns in achieving their goals. Part of her PhD research has been published in the journal of New Media & Society and in the proceedings of the Association for Computational Linguistics. Anna is part of the team that in 2014 received one of the first six awarded Twitter #datagrants for a study of online cancer awareness campaigns, such as #Movember (prostate and testicular cancer). Anna’s PhD advisors are prof. dr. Ariana Need, dr. Michel Ehrenhard, dr. Tijs van den Broek and dr. Djoerd Hiemstra.
In 2018, Anna was appointed as a visiting graduate student at the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Anna obtained a BSc in Sociology (cum Laude, 2012) and a MSc in Sociology and Social Research (cum Laude, 2015) at the University of Trento (Italy). Her master thesis focused on processes of public communication of science on Twitter. During her Master program Anna has also collaborated with two research groups: Science Technology and Society (STSTN) at the University of Trento (ongoing collaboration) and Observa Science in Society (Vicenza).
