EEMCS-AM-MIA

Christoph Brune is Professor of Nonlinear Analysis and head of the MIA - Mathematics of Imaging & AI group in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Twente.

His core research interest is the interplay of nonlinear analysis and deep learning related to inverse problems, mathematical imaging, machine learning, dynamical systems, numerical analysis and scientific computing. The main focus is on the development, analysis and application of geometric deep learning methods for solving partial differential equations and inverse problems. Important topics are deep learning regularization theory for inverse problems, dynamical systems theory, functional analysis in deep learning representation theory, graph neural networks for PDE systems, deep manifold learning and deep Gaussian processes for model-order reduction in PDEs. Impactful areas of application are medical imaging and data science for AI in health, neuroscience and digital twin development for AI in industry.
