I’m Elie Issa, a Lebanese civil engineer who grew up in Kuwait, studied Civil Engineering at the University of Balamand in Lebanon, and completed a Master’s in Civil Engineering – Sustainable Urban Mobility with Cum Laude honors at the University of Bologna in Italy. My earlier research focused on sustainable transport and innovative mobility solutions, including work on a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) concept for Munich in the GlobalDrive project at TU Munich and on using virtual reality for public space assessment at the University of Gustave Eiffel. I am now a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD researcher at the University of Twente within the BRIDGITISE network, working on circular life cycle management of bridges. My current research focuses on developing a digital, data-driven decision support tool that combines GIS, BIM, structural condition information, and environmental assessments to help asset managers prolong bridge service life, enable component reuse, and plan more sustainable, circular interventions across bridge networks in collaboration with partners such as CEMOSA, Croatian Motorways LTD, and InfraPlan.
