Jan studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Kiel, Germany. During his Bachelor's studies, he investigated ADAM proteases in the context of colon cancer. In his Master's studies, he switched focus to Neuroscience and the molecular mechanisms behind Parkinson's disease. Specifically, he analyzed the interaction of Parkinson's risk factor beta-glucocereborsidase (GCase) with its transporter Protein LIMP-2. After graduating in 2020, Jan moved to the University Hospital Erlangen to continue his work on GCase and LIMP-2, employing Structural Biology, Cryo-EM, Protein Biochemistry and Peptide design. He finished his Doctorate in April 2025 and joined BIOS in June 2025.
Jan is an expert biochemist with broad knowledge in protein expression systems, purification strategies and structural and functional analysis. At BIOS, he is working on pore-forming toxins (PFTs) derived from bacteria, engineering them to specifically target cancer cells.
