M. Rocchi (Maria)

I obtained my Bachelor and Master dregree in Biomedical Engineering at the University Campus Bio-medico of Rome. It was during my Bachelor's thesis that I discovered my passion for cardiovascular research, when I had the chance of conducting a retrospective clinical study in the Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesu' in Rome.

After my master, I conducted an internship at ReinVAD GmbH (Aachen, Germany) where I could get to know the development process of a medical device. I then started a PhD in the Unit of Cardiac Surgery of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven under the supervision of Professor Bart Meyns. My research topic is about the development of a cardiovascular simulator implementing 3D models of cardiac sites for medical device testing. 

During my research career I had the possibility to collaborate with multiple companies developing medical devices, and also with different research groups. In particular, I conducted a study with the Medical University of Vienna thanks to a 'yESAO Exchange Award' won in 2020. Finally I am conducting a research stay abroad of 3 months in the CRPH group of the University of Twente thanks to an 'FWO Travel Grant for a Long Stay Abroad'. The collaboration will be then further extended under the frame of the 'Scholarship 2022 for the Cooperative Project' won at the ISMCS conference in 2022.
