About Me
My research addresses the co-construction of technologies and users, with a particular focus on medical technologies. My most recent, and award winning, books include The Male Pill. A Biography of a Technology in the Making ( Duke University Press 2003); Telecare Technologies and the Transformation of Healthcare (Palgrave Macmillan 2011); and the co-edited volume The New Production of Users: Changing Involvement Strategies and Innovation Collectives (Routledge 2016).
In 2021 I received the John Desmond Bernal Prize of the Society of Social Studies of Science. This prize is awarded to individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS).
I have hold several visiting professor positions in Europe, the US, and Asia. Moreover, I am past chair of the board of WTMC: the Netherlands Graduate Research School of Science, Technology and Modern Culture.
