dr. N.M. Nieveen (Nienke)

About Me

Nienke Nieveen is Director of the UT’s teacher education programs and Associate professor at ELAN, the Department for Teacher Professional Development within the Faculty of Behavioral, Management, and Social Sciences

Her orientations are in teacher professional learning in relation to curriculum (re)design in schools, educational design research and curriculum design approaches and tools.

Her dissertation, in 1997, was based on a four-year design-based research project in the field of curriculum design and evaluation. From 1997 to 2007 she was appointed assistant professor at the University of Twente, specializing in curriculum design research and school-based curriculum development. From 2007 - 2019 she was working at SLO Netherlands Institute for Curriculum Development and from 2017 - 2019 she combined this with a associate professorship at TU/e, Eindhoven School of Education.

Nienke is associate editor of The Curriculum Journal, chairs the Curriculum Division of VOR (Dutch Educational Research Association), she chairs the Curriculum Innovation Network of EERA (European Educational Research Association), she is co-founder of the teacher educators network "Curriculum design by teachers", she is board member of EuroAcs (European Association on Curriculum Studies) and member of international Network for Curriculum Studies (University of Stirling, Scotland).
