About Me

I am a Ph.D. researcher at the University of Twente. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Technical University of Kenya in 2014. I also received my master’s degree in the same field, from Stellenbosch University in South Africa in 2019, where I focused on the investigation of the shielding effectiveness of materials using a reverberation chamber, both in frequency and time domain.

My current research, in the Power Electronics group at the University of Twente, as part of the PETER project focuses on the use of a risk-based EMC approach, as a solution to EMI problems in complex systems. I look forward to making a valuable contribution to the integration of risk-based EMC as a means to achieving EMC in complex systems like ships.

Research

My research is focussed on the use of risk-based EMC approach as a means to integrate commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment on board ship, Rule-based EMC approach has been used in ensuring EMC. It however has limitations such as aging of equipment, ineffiicient coverage of some frequencies in the EMC stndards etc. These limitations can be solved by using the risk based approach,
