About Me
Sjoerd Hack is a PhD student at the Mathematics of Compational Science (MACS) and Complex Photonic Systems (COPS) groups at the University of Twente. His supervisors are Prof.dr.ir J.J.W. van der Vegt and Prof.dr. Willem L. Vos.
He will be working on a joint project of MACS and COPS titled "Finite Element Methods for a Quantitative Understanding of Light Propagation in Photonic Nanostructures”.
The aim is to obtain a breakthrough in the understanding of photonic crystal metamaterials by means of accurate numerical methods. To this end, an accurate and efficient discontinuous Galerkin finite-element eigenvalue solver for the time-harmonic Maxwell equations with periodic dielectric materials will be developed.
