Dr. Ville Lehtola is Assistant Professor in the Earth Observation Science (EOS) Department at the University of Twente. The topic of his professorship is 'indoor and mobile mapping'.

The works of Dr. Lehtola deal with perception sensors and data in urban, indoor, forest, and maritime environments. The typical problems may be characterized as simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), measuring while moving (or measuring moving targets), and analysis of the scanned data.

Well-known applications of these techniques are autonomous cars, autonomous forest machines, and autonomous ships. Also, automated techniques for modelling 3D indoor spaces offer tremendous potential for planning and construction applications.
