Current research project:
* Cost-effectiveness of feedback by smart inhalers and tailored medication use review by pharmacists to improve asthma patients' control over their disease.
The aim of this research is to help asthma patients to gain better control over their disease. We aim to achieve this by adding a small device to existing asthma inhalers to support patients to use their asthma medication as prescribed. This device can also help to use the inhaler correctly. The device collects information about a patients’ medication intake and use of the inhaler. The sensorised inhaler provide alerts, reminders and feedback before, during and after use of the inhaler using colours and sounds. The information registered by the inhalers are also available to the pharmacist. The pharmacist can see on his screen if a patient has problems with using the medication or the inhaler correctly and provide advice that is focused on overcoming these problems.
We will study in four European countries if the device is cost-effective in improving asthma patient's control over their disease compared to usual care.
