About Me
Carolina was born in Cuenca-Ecuador. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineer at Yachay Tech University with honors Cum Laude. For her master’s degree she was part the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s degree EMOTION in Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Carolina did her research thesis at the CNC of the University of Coimbra where she worked on the development of miRNA-engineered Extracellular Vesicles for Skin Wound Healing.
Furthermore, Carolina is the co-founder and president of GelWear S.A.S., a company that uses R&I to produce eco-friendly products.
During her career Carolina has received several academic and research awards among are: ECBI Academic Excellence award 2019, Innovator Under 35 LATAM 2020 by MIT Technology Review, winner of the Global Hult Prize Competition 2020, Ecuadorian Researcher Female of the Year (2021).
Currently Carolina is part of OSTASKILLS as PhD candidate. The Marie Curie OSTASKILLS doctoral programme provides this unique training experience for Early-Stage Researchers (ESR´s) to engage in a holistic approach bringing innovations in medical devices, ATMPs and pharmaceutical products aimed at treating osteoarthritis.
