Anouk Middelweerd is an assistant professor in the Biomedical Signals and Systems group. She has a background in physiotherapy and health sciences and works at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and behaviour change. Her research focuses on the development and evaluation of personalized eHealth solutions that support people with chronic conditions in adopting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Anouk works at the intersection of behaviour change, data science, and healthcare, and uses innovative methods—such as artificial intelligence and data‑driven modelling—to support the development of personalized eHealth interventions. The aim is to tailor interventions more precisely to individual users’ needs, context, and goals. All of her research is conducted within multidisciplinary collaborations, in close cooperation with healthcare professionals in local hospitals, technology companies, and academic partners. This approach is directed towards developing personalized and scalable digital solutions that can be effectively implemented in real‑world healthcare practice.
Anouk is involved in research projects focusing on type 2 diabetes, including PerfectFIT and VITAAAL. In addition, she conducts research on personalized digital coaching for people with COPD and comorbidities within the RE‑SAMPLE project, and on personalized support for people with knee osteoarthritis within the LoaD project (NWA‑ORC).
