Amalia is a doctoral candidate at the University of Twente, focusing on universal energy access—a vision within the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Her PhD research explores collaborative approaches to designing and implementing technological solutions for energy access. Recognizing energy access as a complex societal challenge, she adopts a multidisciplinary perspective, integrating insights from social sciences, sustainability, and technology.

She received her B.Sc. in Statistics from the Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Indonesia in 2005. Amalia then pursued her first M.Sc. in Energy and Environmental Management at the University of Twente, graduating in 2011, and later obtained a second M.Sc. in Sustainable Development in 2021, a joint degree from Leipzig University in Germany and the University of Graz in Austria. Her academic interests encompass sustainability science, social science, technology and innovation management, and development studies.

With over a decade of professional experience, Amalia has held key roles in both public sector and international organizations. She has served as a Fuel Subsidy Analyst at Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, an Energy Efficiency Analyst with the Clinton Foundation, and as a Renewable Energy Advisor at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), where she managed the Energising Development project in Indonesia.
