David Charles van der Griend is an external PhD candidate at IEBIS, BMS. His doctoral research focuses on “Effective Negotiation Behaviour”

  • David’s background is rooted in psychology and business, being a trained psychotherapist (BA), health psychologist (MSc), and lead (international) negotiator in the private sector. He has been an external doctoral candidate - writing his dissertation on “Effective Negotiations Behaviour”- at the University of Twente since 2019.
  • Previously working in sales, David moved into management consulting in 2017, focusing on negotiations. He has consulted in both the private sector and the public sector. David worked as a “Negotiation Skills Trainer” and “Assistant Negotiator” for start-ups, SMEs, and MNEs (sectors: Financials Service, Higher Education, High Tech Industrial and Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Aerospace & Defence) and advised NGOs and Political Institutions. Here students and employees of the University of Twente can get additional courses and visit a personal negotiation consultation hour to seek advice and guidance on personal difficulties regarding upcoming salary negotiations.
  • Outside the University, David is affiliated with several student-driven non-profit organisations that promote negotiation education in society at large. He co-founded the “Negotiation Project Twente” and currently chairs its supervisory board.
