Currently working on my PhD at the University of Twente. I obtained both my degree in Biotechnology and masterā€™s in Materials and Biomedical Devices at University of Aveiro, completing it with the thesis ā€œDevelopment and Characterization of Apatiticand Brushitic Microneedles for the Controlled Release of Antibioticsā€ in 2017. As a researcher, my interests include synthesis and characterization of polymers/biopolymers and nanoparticles, extraction and purification of compounds from natural sources, development of drug delivery systems and the synthesis and characterization of biocompatible biomaterials. Previously worked as a R&D Scientist at the Centre of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials (CeNTI).

Currently working as a PhD candidate, inserted in the project "NODIAL - development of NOvel membrane DIALyzers for portable/artificial kidney devices".

About NODIAL:

Continuous hemodialysis via portable/wearable artificial kidneys could further enhance the removal of uremic toxins, enhancing patients overall health when compared to traditional processes. In this project, two laboratory scale hollow fiber dialyzers for outside-in filtration comprising of a single layer membrane and a dual layer mixed matrix membrane will be developed. Their performance concerning toxin removal from human blood plasma and blood compatibility will be compared to current solutions used in the clinic.
