Devota has extensive experience in education across multiple levels, ranging from elementary education to higher education, combined with professional experience in the social work sector. Her interdisciplinary background in Teaching, Social Work, and Educational Science and Technology has shaped her strong commitment to supporting individuals’ educational, personal, and professional development.

Before transitioning fully into higher education, Devota worked as a Social Worker in the Netherlands, supporting diverse groups of people, including individuals with mental health challenges, refugees, the aged, and individuals with developmental conditions such as Intellectual Disability (ID), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, cerebral palsy, and speech or language delays, as well as individuals with genetic conditions such as Down syndrome. This experience significantly informs her inclusive and student-centered approach to education.

Devota played a pioneering role in the establishment of Twente Pathway College (Navitas), where she was responsible for both teaching and developing teaching and learning resources as well as courses. She later joined the University of Twente, where she works with Creative Technology students and is responsible for the course Professional Development, supporting students in building key academic and professional competencies.

Throughout her career, Devota has demonstrated a strong dedication to teaching, mentoring, coaching, and empowering individuals to take ownership of their personal, educational and professional growth. Her expertise includes teaching, perfomance management, needs assessment, change management, course/resources design and development, as well as enhancing learning environments within both educational and organizational contexts.

Devota has also been deeply engaged in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives. From 2022 to 2026, she has served as a core member of the EEMCS Faculty DE&I team, the first faculty-level DE&I team within the University of Twente. Together with her colleagues, she has contributed to increasing awareness and fostering progress on diversity and inclusion within the faculty. Key initiatives include organizing a faculty-wide DE&I survey, facilitating an internal DE&I audit study, developing awareness activities such as the DE&I dilemma games, improving onboarding and inclusive communication practices, initiating faculty suggestion boxes, and contributing to university-wide initiatives such as neurodiversity activities and DE&I e-learning.

Currently, Devota is pursuing a PhD focusing on neurodiversity in higher education. Her research aims to better understand neurodiversity and contribute to the development of more inclusive and accessible academic environments, enhancing learning experiences for students while supporting educators in creating more effective and inclusive teaching practices.
