Since 2020 I am a PhD candidate in the research group "Biomedical Signals and Systems". I have a background in Health Sciences and have an affinity with healthcare. During my PhD research I focus on the intersection of eHealth, lifestyle, and type 2 diabetes. The aim is to guide people with type 2 diabetes to a healthier lifestyle by means of eHealth innovations used in regular care, so that they experience less disease burden.

Organisations

A healthy lifestyle, such as sufficient physical activity and a healthy diet, ensures that a considerable proportion of people with type 2 diabetes have better glucose levels and can often use fewer medicines. eHealth is a tool that can support a healthy lifestyle. During my PhD research I focus on developing and evaluating highly tailored eHealth innovations that are embedded in regular care (i.e., blended care). The aim is to give people with type 2 diabetes more insight into their lifestyle and glucose levels and to guide them towards a healthier lifestyle. The insights into lifestyle and glucose levels are also made transparent for healthcare providers, so that they can offer more personal advice to their patients.

E-Manager Chronic Diseases

Chronic conditions have a major influence on the quality of life and healthcare costs. More than ever it is more important that good self-management solutions are available. That is why the Center for Care Technology Research focuses on the development, implementation and evaluation of the E-manager Chronic Diseases. The E-manager will consist of a "disease burden meter" and an online coaching module (e-supporter). The "disease burden meter" maps the burden of disease of the patient on the basis of a questionnaire that the patient completes before the consultation and on the basis of medical information. The burden of disease is then clearly presented in the various domains, making it easier for the patient and healthcare provider to draw up treatment goals and a treatment plan. The e-supporter will support the patient at home with self-management. The application is being developed in this project and will include several pre-existing online coaching programs supplemented with innovative solutions to provide personalized guidance.

Diameter

The Diameter project is developing a mobile app for people with type 2 diabetes. The purpose of the Diameter is to support people in developing a healthy lifestyle to improve glucose regulation. This is done through monitoring of physical activity (Fitbit), nutrition and glucose levels (Freestyle Libre sensor) and personalized lifestyle coaching.
