About Me

I am a forming expert with over 25 years of experience in sheet metal forming technology, both numerically and increasingly experimentally as well. I obtained my MSc (1989) and PhD (1994) from predecessors of the NSM group. I then started working at Hoogovens R&D (now Tata Steel Europe) in IJmuiden researching forming processes to enable better customer support. Initially, I did mainly FE simulations but over the years more experiemental work has been added. Tata Steel has now allowed me to join NSM for 1 day a week.

Over the years I cooperated with the NSM group in improving prediction of springback (Igor Burchitz & Ali Torkabadi), temperature influence on friction (Chao) and robust optimisation (Martijn Bonte, Jan Harmen Wiebenga & Omid Nejadseyfi). For the last 5 years edge ductility has become a prime focus. I have just started reserach into how Industry 4.0 technology can be applied to support forming processes.
