I am testing the effects of new, digital communication in victim offender mediation, such as videomessaging or -chat. I am interested in getting insights into the role of non-verbal behavior of both parties during conversation. By exploring these alternative ways to mediation, my aim is to develop more efficient communication tools for mediation organizations and to help improve the restorative dialogue between victim and offender after crime.

As a researcher, I am involved in the project Design and implementation of ICT-based commmunication systems in victim-offender mediation that is supervised by dr. Ellen Giebels, dr. Sven Zebel, dr. Marielle Stoelinga en prof.dr. Boudewijn Haverkort. It is funded by the Tech4People program (faculty BMS). Victim offender mediation is often considered a crucial step in the recovery of crime victims as well as for the effective treatment and prevention of recidivism of offenders. This project's ambition is to realize ground-breaking advances in the development and applicability of victim-offender mediation (VOM), through the design and implementation of ICT-based communication systems. It takes place in collaboration with Perspectief Herstelbemiddeling (Utrecht) that puts mediation processes in practice.
