Francisco obtained his MSc degree in Bioengineering - Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Porto, focusing on the effect of the sympathetic nervous system Y1 receptor on bone biology.
Later on, he obtained his PhD at the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (I3S) - University of Porto, in Dr. Meriem Lamghari's Neuronal&Skeletal Circuits Group, while studying the effect of adrenergic stimuli on breast cancer bone metastasis using microfluidic models.
Currently, he is a Post-doctoral researcher at the Advanced Organ bioengineering and Therapeutics (AOT) department, University of Twente. His work focuses on the development of new organ-on-chip models, particularly bone-on-chip disease models for osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.
