Franco Nicolas Piñan Basualdo received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Balseiro, Argentina, in 2017. From 2018 to 2022, he was a joint doctoral candidate at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels, Belgium, and the Université Bourgogne Franche-Comté (UBFC), Besançon, France. During his Ph.D., he collaborated with the GRASP laboratory, at the University of Liège, Liège, Belgium, and he was a visiting researcher at the Physical Intelligence Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Stuttgart, Germany. He received his Ph.D. degree in Engineering Sciences and Technology (ULB) and Automation and Robotics (UBFC), in 2022. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Surgical Robotics Laboratory of the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands. His research interests include micro-robotics, non-contact control, swarm robotics, active matter, microfluidics, and interfacial phenomena.
