Rick studies water consumption in relation to social, economic, and environmental impacts of water use, from global to local scales. Methods of choice are water footprint assessment and valuing water.

Rick is also Executive Director at the Water Footprint Network (WFN), an international non-profit partner and donor organization that works with businesses, NGOs, governments, and investors to promote the transition toward sustainable, fair and efficient use of the world’s fresh water.

Rick is also visiting researcher at King's College London's School for Government.
