Henk-Jan is a PhD Candidate at the philosophy departmentĀ involved in research and teaching. He graduated master's in Biotechnology (2022) and Philosophy (2024) at the echnical universities of Wageningen University & Research and the University of Twente respectively.

His research is aimed at scientific disciplines. Scientists are highly specialised and as a result, it isĀ hard to understand the work of other scientists, let alone to collaborate. Through his background in both biotechnology and philosophy, he investigates what sets scientific disciplines apart, and how these differences lead to difficulties with interdisciplinary collaboration.

He is focused on experimentation, mathematical modelling, simulation, phenomena,Ā realism and anti-realism.

His PhD is part of the EU DREAM project in which chemists and chemical engineers work to develop biorefineries: https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101130523.
