I am Jedidjah Schaaij, a psychology PhD candidate. After my 'positive psychology and technology master' at the UT I wanted to do more research with a societal impact.
I am a psychologist and researcher interested in how people communicate and behave in high-stakes situations. My work focuses on crisis negotiation, victim perspectives, and the interpersonal dynamics that shape outcomes in real-world policing contexts. I am particularly drawn to questions that sit at the intersection of psychology, criminology, and applied practice.
This interest led me to a PhD at the University of Twente’s Psychology of Conflict, Risk and Safety group, where I study crisis negotiation in close collaboration with Dutch police practitioners. The aim of my work is to strengthen evidence-based policing by developing the data infrastructure needed to systematically study complex field practice.
I value research that is rigorous, useful, and closely connected to the realities it seeks to understand. My working style is observant and structured, with a strong focus on translating complex field data into actionable insight and narrowing the gap between research and practice.
