Bibliography

Jeroen Cornelissen (1972) studied chemistry with a minor in Macro-Organic Chemistry carried out at the Eindhoven University of Technology with Prof. E.W. Meijer and a major in Supramolecular Chemistry and Catalysis at the University of Nijmegen with Prof. R.J.M. Nolte. He received his Ph.D. (cum laude) from the latter university in 2001 for research carried out under the supervision of Prof. R.J.M. Nolte. After post-doctoral work at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, U.S.A. he returned to Nijmegen where he was appointed as an Assistant Professor until 2009 when he took up his present position as Full Professor at the University of Twente. From September 2015 to February 2018, he acted as the Scientific Director of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente. Cornelissen received several research grants including an ERC Consolidator Grant and a prestigious EURYI Award in 2007, but also collaborates with national and local industrial partners.  Prof. Cornelissen is the present Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Materials Chemistry B and of Materials Advances, both published by the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is a member of the board of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV) of which he was the president from 2019 to 2022. Community building is one of his passions, as is the dissemination of science – in particular chemistry – to a broader audience; exemplified by appearances at festivals, schools, and contributions to national media. During his academic career to this point, Prof. Cornelissen supervised over 45 Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers. He takes pride in the observation that his research team is the starting point for numerous successful academic careers, but also for BSc, MSc and Ph.D. students to find prosperous employment in other sectors.  With close to 200 publications, Prof. Cornelissen made a significant impact in his research field. He is considered one of the pioneers in the use of protein cages in materials and biomedical science and as such gave many invited lectures.
