dr. J. Jezdimirovic Ranito (Jovana)

Jovana Jezdimirovic Ranito works at the Public Administration section of the BMS faculty as an assistant professor. She teaches and conducts research in the fields of international security and education. Her research focuses on security governance and public-private security collaborations, particularly those involving private security providers. She focuses on the consequences of insecurity for the human rights of populations. Additionally, she is interested in improving the attributes of students in engineering education, with a particular emphasis on transdisciplinary learning, professionalization of collaboration, and a sustainable mindset.

Jovana has been an expert for the UN Human Rights Council's Working Group on Mercenaries since October 2023. The working group is focused on protecting human rights in relation to the operations of private actors that offer security and military services, such as mercenaries,  mercenary-related actors, and private military and security companies.

Jovana Jezdimirovic Ranito holds an:


- PhD in International politics and Conflict resolution (2016) 
- MA in Peace and Security studies (2009), 
both from the University of Coimbra, Portugal.

Jovana did her postdoctoral work on global security assemblages at the University of Porto before to joining the faculty of Twente. She received multiple honors, including the Portuguese Political Science Association's Best Doctoral Dissertation and Summa Cum Laude for her doctorate.
Jovana was previously a teacher at University College Twente, Atlas program, and participated in University College Twente's Program Committee before joining BMS faculty in 2026.
