Jamal is an Assistant Professor in the Surface Technology and Tribology group at the University of Twente. His research focuses on adhesion, bonding, surface engineering, coatings, and tribology, with particular attention to how surfaces and interfaces control the performance and failure of advanced material systems.
He is interested in understanding how damage, fracture, wear, and degradation develop at interfaces and how this knowledge can be used to design more reliable bonded, coated, and hybrid structures. His work combines experimental characterization, mechanical testing, fracture and peel mechanics, tribological analysis, and modelling to connect fundamental interface mechanisms with practical engineering challenges.
Jamalās research supports applications in aerospace, high tech systems, thermoplastic composites, energy systems, and advanced manufacturing. His ultimate goal is to improve the durability, safety, and efficiency of engineering structures through science based design of surfaces and interfaces.
