I am an Assistant Professor in Psychology, Health & Technology at the University of Twente and am also affiliated with Roessingh Research and Development (RRD). My research lies at the intersection of health psychology, digital health, and data science. I use intensive longitudinal data, including ecological momentary assessment, smartphones, and wearable sensors, to better understand health and behaviour in daily life and to develop more personalised approaches to prevention and treatment.
My work focuses particularly on digital phenotyping, intensive longitudinal methods, and personalised digital interventions, including Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) and n-of-1 approaches. I apply these methods across mental health and chronic conditions, with a longstanding research line in tinnitus and hearing-related disorders.
Alongside my research at the University of Twente, I am affiliated with Roessingh Research and Development, the research and innovation department of Roessingh, Center for Rehabilitation. This collaboration focuses on translating digital health and behavioural-science methods into clinically relevant research and healthcare applications for patients with chronic pain.
I am Co-Chair of the Twente Health School, an interdisciplinary initiative of the BMS Health Theme, and coordinator of the Master's thesis programme in Positive Clinical Psychology and Technology (PCPT).
Funding
I am a co-applicant and investigator in JADE – Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions for Behavioral Activation in Patients with Depression, a ZonMw-funded collaboration between Dimence Groep/Thubble and the University of Twente. The project develops and evaluates personalised just-in-time support for behavioural activation in depression using participatory design and intensive longitudinal methods. The project runs from 2024–2026 (ZonMw project 06360332310004).

Public outreach
In 2024, I appeared on the Tinnitus Talk podcast episode Good Tinnitus Science, Bad Tinnitus Science, together with epidemiologist Inge Stegeman. We discussed research design, patient selection, outcome measurement, statistical analysis, open science, and how patients can distinguish stronger from weaker evidence about tinnitus treatments.
