As Chief Science Architect at ORTEC, I am reponsible for vision and strategy for the mathematics in ORTEC's portfolio. In my role, I run a strategic research program connecting scientists, applied researchers at ORTEC, and business experts at ORTEC's customers. The goal of this research program is to stimulate collaboration and facilitate activities like collaborative hackathons, easy access to real-life (anonymized) data and business challenges, and joint workshops/inspiration sessions. The main domains we are active in are vehicle routing, supply chain planning, 3D load optimization, and workforce scheduling.

My educational background is in OR, but in the last decade I have extended my mathematical scope with data science and ML applications. At ORTEC, we build commerical software where the interaction with the user is crucial. We are actively exploring the possibilities LLMs give us to improve that interaction and bring mathematical optimization to a next level.

Finally, I believe that we can do good for the world using our domain expertise. Therefore, I am highly interested in research focusing not only on reducing costs, but also on saving CO2 emmissions and waste, on increasing productivity and satisfaction of employees, and other factors that have a positive and sustainable impact on the world.
