Lin Xie is an assistant professor of AI/OR Smart & Sustainable Industry within the High Tech Business and Entrepreneurship (HBE) department at the University of Twente and a visiting professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg. She holds a bachelor's and a master's degree (2008 and 2010) in Information Systems and did her Ph.D. at the University of Paderborn (2014). After finishing her Ph.D., Lin did her postdoc at the same university. From 2015 to 2022, she was an assistant professor of Information Systems and Operations Research at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.

Lin's research includes both industry and sustainability focuses. The industry focus includes digital logistics (robotics in warehouses, last-mile logistics) and intelligent transportation, while the sustainability focus includes robust planning in public transit (e-buses, personnel planning), and robotics services in data center maintenance, in Agri-PV systems and in sports.

The decision support methods she applies to solve the important and practice-oriented problems in the areas mentioned above are operations research/artificial intelligence methods (discrete-event simulation, mathematical modeling, metaheuristics, queueing theory, column generation, data mining and machine learning) and emerging technologies (digital twinning, virtual reality).

Lin has participated in various research and implementation projects funded by the German Research Foundation, the European Social Fund, the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and industrial partners.

In teaching, Lin received the best teaching award in 2018 from the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
