Research profiles

My research focuses on Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence for health, with the development of explainable AI methods for healthcare applications as a central theme. Shared design methodologies are a core component of this work, with clinicians and patients involved throughout the development process to ensure interpretability, methodological validity, and clinical relevance. Across projects in EEG monitoring and classification, medical imaging, dermatology, sleep medicine, liver cancer prediction, and health-related education, the research addresses key challenges in healthcare AI, including limited sample sizes, demographic bias, missing and noisy data, privacy constraints, high-dimensional and streaming data, and the integration of multi-modal data such as EEG signals and medical imaging. The objective is to develop AI systems that are reliable, explainable, and suitable for deployment in real clinical and societal settings. An overview of my funded projects is provided below. These projects are the result of collaboration, joint brainstorming, and co-creation with colleagues from the university, healthcare, and education sectors.
