Overview Research Contact
Maarten Appelman is a PhD Candidate on the topic of Universal Energy Access. He has an academic background in Telecommunication Engineering, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Li-ion Battery Degradation, and Philosophy of Science, Technology, and Society. For his PhD, he works on socio-technical design for clean cooking, energy justice, history of electricity in Uganda, sustainable design of solar home systems, and capability theories for energy access. Maarten's work can be summarized as trying to make social and ethical considerations technologically feasible, and making technical designs socially sustainable.
