I am an external PhD candidate at Twente University at BMS.

My research is concerned with knowledge sharing and dissemination in Helix collaborations. I research how the absorption of critical new knowledge in SMEs can be influenced. SMEs benefit little from external knowledge acquisition. The transfer of knowledge and the conversion of different knowledge modes is time consuming and expensive for most SMEs.

This research contributes to the development of differentiated knowledge management tools and practices to identify constraints and capture and codify knowledge in order to increase knowledge integration.

I am interested in knowledge management models and knowledge boundaries, design research, co-creation and boundary spanning processes and open innovation.

Marco Wiersma is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS).

His research interests lie in the field of Human Resources Management, Knowledge Management and Innovation.

At the moment he is researching knowledge management models in innovation spaces between the systems of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS).

Mark has a MSc degree in Sociology from the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Research profiles

Current project

In this project, a skills matching approachwill developed by TNO  and participating project parthers. in a small-scale This way, the project aims to offer a solution to the personnel shortages in the logistics sector and the (imminent) unemployment in the hospitality industry as a result of the corona crisis. In addition, the project contributes to the desired job transitions between shrinking and growing sectors, and we respond to developments in the labor market in which no longer diplomas, but the knowledge, abilities and characteristics (skills) of candidates are central.

Main interest of participation is to research a) contribute to the research in terms of scientific deliverables for the project b) participate in terms of knowledge creation in innovation spaces c) the research capabilities and capacities of RUAS in this project (d) research possible boundary objects of participants.

Current projects

Sharing Logistics

Climate change, the Paris climate agreements and the European Union's CO2 target increase the need to accelerate the research, development and implementation of solutions that can contribute to achieving them. For the Netherlands, this has been translated into NWA route 016 (TNO 2018), which states that, in addition to using more efficient means of transport and vehicles with low CO2 emissions, the logistics sector must urgently look for other ways to reduce the CO2 intensity of significantly reduce its activities. The research is made possible by TKI Dinalog and comprises several sub-projects within five focus areas: urban distribution, construction logistics, transport & warehousing, healthcare logistics and service logistics. Smart ICT and human capital are a common thread running through all sub-projects. under the direction of the RDM Center of Expertise and with the support of the Research Center Sustainable Port City. In addition to Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Breda University of Applied Sciences is also taking part in the research, which is part of the study as practical partners: Bouwend Nederland, Evofenedex, GroenCollect, KennisDC Logistics, Nedcargo, OSI Global Supply Chains and TLN.

HRM innovation space

In today’s organizations, are number of developments ask for more theories and ideas on boundary spanning activities, roles, skills and objects, especially for HR. Identifying new and relevant knowledge (and capturing new information) will be essential and challenging for knowledge workers. Negotiating knowledge becomes a more important skill in relation to more complex contents, contexts and environments. Human resource Management plays an important part not only in staffing conditions, but by combining flows of knowledge and information through knowledge management for boundary actors. In this project we will research identification, transfer and transformation capacities. In this project Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences researches with students and lecturers how boundary spanning can be facilitated. Participating organizations are mostly in the field of logistics or logistics activities: Wemmers Tanktransport, Koopman Logistics, Boede Scholten, Hutchinsons Ports ECT, Schenk Papendrecht, Inbisco, AMS,DHL, Shipping Factory, Neska Container Line, Maat Transport
