About Me
My name is Marcus Vinicius Pereira Pessôa (1969 Niterói, Brazil) and I am an Assistant Professor in Engineering Management at the University of Twente, where I am a member of the Systems Engineering and Multidisciplinary Design chair.
Before moving to the Netherlands I worked in the Brazilian Air Force as military pilot and as project and program manager. There I was responsible for the development and acquisition of air defense and aerospace control systems, with a project portfolio over US$50 million.
I was also a post doctorate fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Mechanical and Systems Engineering Departments, where I conduced research on the use of low cost knowledge networks to solve complex problems.
I have a multidisciplinary education, including a degree in Applied Computing (MSc.), a MBA in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, a MBA in Research and Development Management, and a PhD in Aeronautical Mechanical Engineering. My PhD research was on integrating the Lean Philosophy to the Product Design and Development process, which later became the basis for the book ‘The Lean Product Design and Development Journey’, published by Springer (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-46792-4).
