I work at ELAN, the department of teacher development. My research is focused on data use, instructional decision making, and differentiated instruction.

The MATCH-project was aimed at understanding and improving differentiation in primary school mathematics. Based on the 4CID-model, we designed an intervention to improve primary school teachers' differentiation skills. Also, we developed and studied an instrument to Assess Differentiation in All Phases of Teaching: ADAPT. Next to an extensive manual, we developed an online learning environment where teachers, students and others can learn how to use this instrument. Based on all this, we developed the ADAPT-intervention: a combination of the MATCH-training and using ADAPT by qualified observers in the school. In 2025/2026 and 2026/2027, independent research team from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Hogeschool IPABO will conduct an RCT to evaluate the effectiveness of the ADAPT-intervention.

Am involved in a longitudinal study into the development of beginning teachers, a project about differentiated instruction in special education (in close collaboration with Hogeschool KPZ and Kentalis), and a project where partners in Enschede collaborate to improve language and reading education.

Furthermore, I am involved in two master programs. For EST, I am one of the graduation coordinators, I supervise students in their final projects, and I coordinate and provide the master courses '4CID for complex learning' and 'Teacher learning and development'. In our Teacher Training program, I am involved in General Didactics and am a member of the program committee.
