I am a formerĀ UT-student (1990-1995). In that period,Ā I did my Masters in Public Administration and BusinessĀ administration (both with the civil engineering specialization) and lived in Enschede-Zuid. Following these studies, I did my Ph.DĀ (1995-2001) at Delft University, faculty of Technology Policy and Management. My research topic was to support public decision makers with safety relevant indicators for the development of transport corridors. https://repository.tudelft.nl/record/uuid:4df72296-b74b-4169-9590-24177a448592. After finishing my Ph.D, I started working as a transportation safety researcher in the fire and disaster abatement field at, what nowadays is called, the Dutch Institute for Public Safety (NIPV) and laterĀ at TNO (industrial safety).Ā In 2016, I became an appliedĀ professor in energy safety and transportation safety at NIPV. For 2 days I week, I still fulfill this position, leading the research group of about 10 persons (https://nipv.nl/lectoraat/energie-en-transportveiligheid/).

The remaining days, I work as full professor Safety of the energy transition in de built Environment at CEM. In my work, I assess the safety mechanisms of sustainable developemnts such as solar park, ammonia transporttation, hydrogen production, windturbines,....Safety in my work concerns risk assessment (how to prevent accidents), environmental safety (assess accident concequences for people near potential hazards) and incident response (how to suppress/mitigate accident consequences).

In general, I will be at my office (Horst Z231) Tuesday and Wednesday (till about 13.30 pm).Ā
