I received my Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from the University of Twente in 1992. From 1992 to 2003 I worked as a senior researcher for Nederlands Centrum voor Laser Research BV, focusing on low-energy free-electron lasers and solid-state laser systems. I joined the Laser Physics and Nonlinear Optics group of the faculty Science and Technology in 2003 and continued my research on free-electron lasers, solid-state lasers and extending it with nonlinear optics. Over the years my focus shifted from bulk optics and free-electron lasers to integrated photonics, focusing on hybrid integrated lasers, nonlinear integrated photonics and the interaction of light with sound, with a focus on silicon nitride waveguides. As a small side project, I remain involved with the development of an optical wavefront propagation (OPC) and an FEL gain code (MINERVA).
From 2000 onward, I have been involved in teaching in both the bachelor and master programs of the faculty Applied Physics.
