Structural packaging design is complex because of the number of aspects that have to be taken into account. We do research after the role of packaging in sustainability, how to design convenient packaging, the influence of packaging design on choice behaviour of consumers, sealing of plastic films, new cellulose based materials and the processing of packaging on fast running packaging lines. The research projects lead to better understanding of decisions to be taken during the design process.

The chair is founded in 2006 and is being paid by the NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre with support of 10-15 companies with the objective to raise professionalism in the field of packaging. The composition of the group of companies can change. See for an active list the website of the NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre. The chair is not involved in the composition of this group.

Besides my work at university I work at Plato product consultants since 1991 as designer/consultant of packaging related issues. Sometimes ideas are developed on own initiative and risk. A succesful example is the easy-to-open cap made out of two parts that is used on some glass jars.

Visiting professor Ghent University (campus Kortrijk), supporting the (master-after-master) educational program Sustainable Food Packaging.
