S. Ayas PhD (Selin)

Lecturer

About Me

I am working as a Lecturer at the department of Psychology, Health and Technology. I have a background in psychology and received my Master's and PhD degrees from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Psychological Counseling and Guidance programme. My academic interests center around the field of cyberpsychology and digital wellbeing. I am currently teaching in different modules of the bachelor's programme Psychology and engaged in supervision of BSc and MSc students of the Positive Clinical Psychology & Technology section.

Besides teaching, I have a passion for research and counseling practice. I have experience in practicing as a psychologist and a supervisor in different organizations working with adolescents and young adults. In my practice as a counseling psychologist, I mainly adopt the principles of Individual (Adlerian) Psychology and Emotionally Focused Therapy Model. I strongly believe that research, counseling practice and teaching are intertwined aspects of my professional life.

Research

My research interest is mainly centered around cyberpsychology, focusing on how people behave and present themselves online and psychosocial reflections of technology use for different populations. My main motive is to explore the underlying psychological mechanisms and relational dynamics between people and the digital world. Thus, contributing to preventive studies that guide individuals and communities to develop a healthy relationship with technology, fostering greater digital well-being.
