At University College Twente I'm responsible for the design and teaching of physics/engineering courses (such as Newtonian Mechanics, Systems & Transport Phenomena, and Thermo-mechanical systems). In addition, I coordinate the first two semesters (overarching interdisciplinary educational units) within the college.

I'm interested in (and have developed expertise in) designing courses in which students develop understanding of the physical world and engineering problems by applying a conceptual lens to real world phenomena (concept-based instructional design). In my courses hands-on experimentation and physical-mathematical modelling are intertwined.

In my teaching, I experiment with various forms of active learning and peer-learning: in the classroom students spend their time actively thinking through (tangible) problems and challenges together. As a teacher I observe and support this (collaborative) thinking and help students consolidate their learning (on both process and content level).
