Varun Pahilaj is a PhD candidate in Health Technology and Services Research (HTSR) at the University of Twente. He holds a Master’s degree in Health Economics and Management through the European Master in Health Economics and Management (Eu-HEM) programme. His academic and professional background spans health economics, epidemiology, infectious disease modelling, and public health, with a focus on applying quantitative methods to support evidence-based healthcare decision-making.

His PhD research is part of the MERIT project, which aims to develop new methods and a framework for evaluating multi-disease tests (MDTs). His research focuses on health economic modelling and evaluation, using AI-based multi-disease testing in radiology as a case study. The research is conducted in collaboration with Amsterdam UMC.
